How did Upstream get its name?
Upstream Office Suites and Coworking is proud to be a member of the downtown historic district in Ball Ground, Georgia. Jac and Mindy Crawford decided to name their new venture Upstream in honor of the town’s history. “Upstream” is a loose translation of the Cherokee word “Taliwa”. Across the street, there is a Georgia Historic Marker commemorating the 1755 Battle of Taliwa between the Cherokee and Creek Indians.
As many folks know, Ball Ground was named for the Native American sport played in the area. In our lobby, we have a beautiful mural of a Cherokee quilt design, painted by the same student group who produced the full-size building murals honoring our town’s rich history.
History of 330 Gilmer Ferry Building
Historic Downtown Ball Ground was listed on the National Register of Historic Places in 2009. The Upstream building dates back to the 1940s, and has been home to an event venue (The Corner District), a rock store, an automobile parts manufacturer (Diversified) and even a filling station.
